EIGHT out of the 16 boreholes inspected by Eastern Water and Sewerage Company (EWSC) in Chipata last week were found with faecal contamination.
And Eastern Province Minister Makebi Zulu said faecal contamination is the source of cholera.
Mr Zulu said the affected areas and institutions should be named as part of the measures to prevent the spread of cholera, which has so far claimed one life in Lundazi.
EWSC was tasked by a provincial multi-sectoral committee to do sample testing of selected boreholes in Chipata.
The eight boreholes are at Kapata Bus Station, Magazine Mosque, Motel shops, Chipata Motel, Police Compound, Chipata Central Police, Inside Prisons and Prisons new clinic.
