There is restrictions on hand luggage you may take on board the plane too. Although varying by airline and route, the international allowance is generally around 7Kg max, 1 piece, and it must not exceed in size
Most airlines do allow sports goods [ ie golf clubs, bicycle etc] to fly without being counted towards your main luggage allowance. Always check with the airline first.
